The Devil Wears Prada: Fantastic!
Meryl Streep, I love her. I became a fan after watching the HBO mini-series, Angels in America. If you haven’t seen that, you really should check it out.
At any rate, I was surprised at how funny and just adorable this movie was. Oddly enough, it turned out to be a great “feel-good” movie. You have Andy/Andrea (Anne Hathaway), who is new in the office and has aspirations of becoming a top-writer/journalist, starting at the very bottom of the food chain as a secondary assistant to Mrs. Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the Big Cheese at Runway magazine and the queen of the fashion world.
As Andy furthers her career at Runway, she begins to earn the respect from Priestly, and even enjoys her job, but she draws the envy of some of her friends as her time with them grows less and less due to her demanding boss. Eventually, she has to choose between the potential of becoming a powerhouse in the industry and her friends/boyfriend. While I thought her friend’s feelings towards her were quite irrational and undeserved, it helped to keep things interested, even though they should’ve been more proud of her as opposed to being bitchy…especially her boyfriend.
One other thing, the soundtrack was incredible! :-) Unfortunately, some of the songs that are in the movie do not make it to the soundtrack. Methinks that to be a bit odd.
In the end, it is a fantastic movie, it’s got Meryl Streep, and I think you might want to check it out. I was surprised to see that I had enjoyed it so much, and you might be, too.
