13. Zangief – Street Fighter Series
Not all gay guys are femmy, limp-wristed sprites, darting about with their long flowy hair wisping about their girly faces. Capcom had already given us Eagle, (although he would go on a long hiatus) but they continued to represent the bear side of things with Zangief. There are a few gay character lists out there, and funnily enough, Zangief appears on almost all of them. Is it the speedo? The knee length boots? The thatch of of ungroomed chest hair and mohawk? Or could it be that in Street Fighter Alpha 3 amongst his dislikes was listed “beautiful young women”. Although I will note that at the end of Capcom Fighting Evolution, Zangief is shown languishing with three half naked girls in a hot tub. Was this done to throw us off the track? Personally, I think they were just discussing the latest Dolce & Gabanna handbag collection.

Zangief is on the list, but Vega isn’t?
Bah.
First off, Zangief is a wrestler, so that’s why he wears the speedo and boots. Secondly, most Russians are hairy (I being on of them), so there’s the chest. Also, most traditional (Communist-era) Russians prefer homely women to beutiful skinny blondes. Translation: he’d take a babushka with a pot belly, a average to sub-average face, and farmer’s hands over a super model because she can pull her weight and knows how to work. So go pounce on Vega or Zhang He from Dynasty Warriors and leave the russkies out of this.

Capcom Fighting Evolution is a non-canon work in the first place, moreover the Street Fighter team left Capcom so it’s double-unofficial.
there was one image of zangeif that disturbed me..it was released in an official capcom art book wich featured all images from the games up to alpha 3..it had zangeif blushing while looking at signed picture of if i recall correctly, Vega(balrog)..from that moment on, i knew he was a fudge packer. Capcom can deny all they want, but the original creators pretty much had Z pegged down as a homo.
