American McGee Agrees With Reggie Fils-Aime
Well, we’re all about Nintendo today. It appears that American McGee agrees with Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime that Nintendo does, in fact, rule the universe. The rarely-understated celebrity game designer goes so far, in fact, as to say that
“The only truly next-gen console out there is the Wii. Everything else is just a video card and processor upgrade.”
Okay. I mean, whatcha gonna say to that? There’s certainly a lot of mine-is-bigger-than-yours swaggering going on between Microsoft and Sony, hardware-wise, and of course the high-def DVD format wars have not made either side look particularly concerned with revolutionizing gaming per se, just who gets to get paid for making games look better. Nintendo, on the other hand, has been jumping the shark in terms of gameplay for some time now, and it’s mostly paid off. Whether or not that trend will continue to the console world, where graphics matter a whole freaking lot – whether you like it or not – remains to be seen. I’ve heard American McGee sound like a sensationalist horse’s ass before, but this time he could be right, too.
