Duran Duran Gets Second Life In Second Life

BBC news reports that 80’s mega-band Duran Duran will be creating their own virtual island within the online game Second Life where they will perform virtual online concerts.
BBc Radio 1 has already staged successful music festivals within the game and recreated the One Big Weekend music event online so people could participate virtually.
Duran Duran’s keyboardist, pretty boy Nick Rhodes, had this to say about the project:
“When the video revolution began we instantly saw the opportunity to experiment and explore a new form of expression to enhance the musical experience. Second Life is the future right now, offering endless possibilities for artists.”
3D avatars of the band have been commissioned and will be revealed at the group’s first online concert.
Let’s hope it turns out better than the ill-fated faux online U2 concert.

Hopefully they`ll use newer technology, such as peer-to-peer streaming (for instance MyFlow), to avoid exceeding their bandwidth and thus avoid repeating U2’s problem: “the simulator was packed to the max with 100 people and many more trying to get in”
