Halo Helmer Happily...Hannounced

Gamasutra serves up this positive development in the effort to get Master Chief up on the big screen. With Peter Jackson set as executive producer but Guillermo Torro out as a potential helmer (thanks, Joystiq), we didn’t know whether to be riotously excited or crushed.
But now Microsoft has announced that the film based on the Bungie blockbuster will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, a South African native and director of commercials and short films who was nominated for an Emmy for his work on an episode of everybody’s favorite canceled show, Dark Angel. Mr. Blomkamp will be making his feature film directorial debut with Halo, and there’s every reason to hold out high hopes: he was named “One of the Top Five Directors to Watch” at the 2004 First Boards Awards as well as being a featured artist at the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase in Cannes. Way to go, Big Money.
Oh, and Halo the film is scheduled to hit a theatre near you in the summer of 2008.

This is the guy who made “Tetra Vaal” and “Alive In Joburg,” two very well made and intelligent short films which if you haven’t seen you must watch right fucking now.
