Nancy Drew Inadvertantly Dragged Into Violent Video Game Debate

Nancy Drew, girl sleuth, longtime book character (since the 30’s!), tv star and suspected lesbian, has forayed into the video game universe before with her line of PC games. But now, she has been dragged kicking and screaming into the hot debate over violent video games. At Siggraph 2006 in Boston this week, panelist Jason Della Rocca, executive director of the International Game Developers Association was quoted thusly:
“If a little girl spent hours reading Nancy Drew books, no one would send her to a book addiction clinic, because people perceive books as nutritional,” said Rocca. “Any isolated behavior is unhealthy, and parents should be looking into any addiction that could be a symptom of a bigger problem. But rather than focusing on video games, he said, people should be focusing on the person with the addictive behavior.”
And what does Nancy think of being the book equivalent of heroin and GTA:San Andreas? Nancy, if your reading this, please let us know what you think…
