Ne-Yo He-No Ho-Mo!

Earlier this week rumors were floating around that Def Jam recording artist Ne-Yo was going to come out in next month’s issue of Essence Magazine. Sadly, the rumors were just that. Vibe Magazine has set the record straight.
Def Jam is the company that refuses to license any music to MTV’s LOGO network, so it really would have made things interesting to see what they would have done with a queer artist on their hands.
In related news, EA’s Def Jam Fight For NY: The Takeover was released this week for the PSP.
Create a fighter from the ground up, choosing from thousands of unlockable licensed gear to personalize your hip hop character. Master over 180 new moves and five different fighting styles to rise through the ranks and gain respect amongst your crew to ultimately rule the streets of New York City.
And here I was looking forward to using Ne-Yo’s “flying flamingo style” special moves, while wearing purple chiffon, to create the ultimate gay gangsta’ mafia. *sigh

The hiphop culture seems to be one of the most homophobic around. Good to know that Def Jam is so gay friendly, I’ll make a note of that.
And PS, I (heart) LOGO. It has got to be THE single greatest media breakthrough in years and years. I realize it is by no means the first GLBT channel, but it is IMHO bringing quality and diverse programming to America en masse.
I knew LOGO was reaching people when my white, older midwestern mother began telling me about this show she loves about six months ago, Noah’s Arc.
Of course, now I just have to get her to learn the show’s name and stop calling it “that black gay show”.
To be honest, it doesn’t really bother me that there would be less rap on a gay channel. The two cultures just don’t mix well.
