Pink Pride: Handheld Prejudice

I like picking on Geek On Stun: he’s kinda cute, kinda funny, and I kinda think he’d switch-hit after a few drinks. The proof, alongside some other questionable things, is in the pudding. Check out the geek’s latest opinion, A Lesson About Pink Things, in which he waxes dramatic about the impracticality of pink colored handhelds, claiming that the pink iterations of the DS Lite and PSP are a nonfunctional way of getting women to play games while humiliating male gamers. He also suggests a rather limited group of people (all male, incidentally) who might be jazzed about a pink handheld:
If you relate to this, you’re either gay or think this might be a good gift for your girlfriend. If you’re gay, fabulous. Go for it. We’ll know that when you’re chatting us up on the train and we spot your pink DS or PSP, that we should tell you quickly about our “girlfriend”.
Now, there might be a scrap of marketing-dodo truth behind the idea that pink handhelds are supposed to appeal to female gamers who might otherwise not hop on the gaming bandwagon, but let’s not get boxy with our thinking. A pink DS Lite is awesome whether you’re Arnold Schwarzenegger or Maria Shriver, okay? Real men game pink!
