Prism Comics Seeks Editor And Designer For 2007 Issue

For all the comic book fans out there, if you aren’t already acquainted with Prism Comics, you should definitely check out their site. Prism Comics is a company dedicated to promoting and producing GLBT comics. They also produce their annual guide to all things queer in the world of comics with the Prism Guide. I had no idea about the completely out and loving couple in Young Avengers or that Colossus from the Ultimate X-Men was gay (and dating Northstar – ewww!) until I read their 2006 Prism Guide. It certainly rekindled my interest in the art form which I hadn’t paid attention to since The Infinite Gauntlet and its subsequent plot lines.

Well, for those that think they can do an even better job with the 2007 Prism Guide, here is your chance. Prism Comics is currently looking for an editor and designer for the next edition. Check out what’s involved after the jump. Good luck!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chicago, IL—Prism Comics is looking for an Editor and a Designer for its 2007 Prism Guide to LGBT comics. Building upon its previous guides, the new publication will include updated profiles on LGBT creators, new pages of LGBT comic art, articles, and more. Prism Comics is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the work of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) creators in the comics industry, as well as LGBT themes in comics in general. Seeing that Prism Comics is a nonprofit, these positions are unpaid and strictly volunteer. Prism Comics has scheduled the guide to be completed by December of 2006 for solicitation through Diamond Distributors and also for sale at comic book conventions throughout 2007.

“With comics increasingly featuring LGBT characters and storylines, the Prism Guide is more vital than ever,” said Prism Comics Publications Chair Shaun Manning. “Working on the 2007 guide is a terrific chance for someone to highlight and promote LGBT comics and team with some of the most talented and successful creators in the comic book industry.”

Prism Comics has produced annual guides to LGBT Comics since 2003. Each guide has featured covers and exclusive writing and art by comic book luminaries such as Phil Jimenez, Justin Hall, Joe Phillips, Rivkah, Tim Fish, and Eric Shanower, along with providing extensive articles, interviews and profiles on LGBT artists, writers, and professionals such as Paige Braddock, Terry Moore, Devin Grayson, Colleen Coover, Alison Bechdel and many more.

Duties for the position of Editor will include:

1. Creating an overall plan and schedule.

2. Soliciting content from comic book writers, artists and professionals, i.e. new images/pages of LGBT comic book art, articles, interviews, and covers.

3. Finding advertising.

4. Working with the Designer on publication layout.

5. Delivering the completed Guide by December of 2006 for solicitation through Diamond Distributors and also for sale at comic book conventions throughout 2007.

The editor may also choose to recruit an assistant to aid in these duties.

Duties for the position of Designer will include:

1. Working with the Editor, who will set the production schedule, and help determine the layout and look of the Guide.

2. Building upon the templates already created with InDesign CS to create continuity in the look of the publication while keeping it fresh.

Motivated, deadline-driven individuals interested in providing these vital functions for Prism Comics can contact Shaun Manning at editor@prismcomics.org. Copies of the recent Guides are on sale at http://www.prismcomics.org/shop.php.
