PSM Editor Disses The PS3

It seems like Daddy Warbucks and Scrooge McDuck are the only souls alive who can afford the PS3’s luxurious pricetag. Dana Jongewaard editor of the Official Playstation Magazine recently wrote in her blog about her issues with the PS3 price and her plans to buy a 360 this November.
“I can’t justify it. $600 is a lot of money, especially when I can get what—for me at least—will be a very similar experience for $400. I would like to own a PS3, and I hope that the price drops soon so I can consider it. But until then, this Official PlayStation Magazine editor will have to join the dark side.”
She states that there are too few exclusive titles at launch to merit spending the $600 dollars for the system. Also, she notes that the BluRay is something that she doesn’t care about.
These are her views and she doesn’t propose to speak for the masses of gamers out there. Although I believe that her views reflect the opinions of many gamers. Who cares for BluRay? Who needs it? DVD has excellent picture and audio quality at a price almost everyone can afford. Why does Sony believe that they can create a proprietary media format, thus forcing the rest of the populace to conform to their means of delivering content?
I’ve been watching the console wars since the 16bit era, and I’ve never seen such bad press surrounding the launch of a system. It’s sad to see this reaction, after the phenomenal success of the PS2. I hope for Sony’s sake that they get their act together and blow away all expectations when the system actually launches, if not they’re merely sitting ducks.
