Sony Scrambling For Motion Control?

With Sony less than chatty lately about the state of the PS3 (Phil Harrison notwithstanding), it’s good to hear that Game|Life was one of the lucky few to get some face time with a real PS3 development station and, even better, get a little action at Sega this week with PS3 launch title, Full Auto 2: Battlelines. And while they seemed impressed with the alpha stage version of the game, which is also available on the Xbox 360, they did have a disturbing update on the game’s lack of support for the PS3 controller’s motion support:
”...although they referred to the build as ‘feature-complete,’ they did admit that the one feature that was not yet included was (wait for it) motion-sensing, although they did ‘have some cool ideas.’”
More than a few speculated that the motion-sensing idea was Sony’s response to the Wii’s innovation, and the apparent lack of developer support for the feature hasn’t exactly turned that notion on its head. The controllers Game|Life got to use didn’t even have motion sensors inside them, which doesn’t just make me all glowy with confidence, and sends whispers of another delay echoing through my pretty, empty head.
UPDATE:
Check out this bit of Sony sadness over at Gamespot, where SCEA exec Kaz Hirai admits the PS3 isn’t yet being manufactured, nor is there a specific date set to begin doing so.
