Square Enix Console On The Horizon?
Square Enix is currently broadening their focus to include a piece of hardware. An RPG console? This comes as a surprise, considering that this RPG Juggernaut has no experience in hardware. Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, has recently revealed that they will collaborate with Taito, who has experience in hardware.
“Square Enix will collaborate with Taito, a company that produces physical hardware. In our talks with Taito, ideas for an actual physical product have come up.”
This is an interesting move for Square Enix. Does this mean that they will only release their games on this new system? Are they looking take their franchises away from all other consoles? Is this move towards harboring their mascots on one system, similar to Nintendo’s strategy? What do you think? Inquiring minds want to know.

This news has been bouncing ‘round for at least 6 or 7 years now. I remember debating this on the school bus with my friends and how kick-ass it would be for Square to release a RPG only console…of course, it never came to fruition. Interesting to see such news resurface after so long.
Hardware can mean a lot of things. They actually had this thing come out in Japan that was a motion-sensing sword you could swing in-game, a la the WiiMote. Maybe it’s something like that?
