Sunday Wordplay For The Lonely
Fruit Brute’s right: it is a lonely day here in the GayGamer castle. But while our fearless leader pines away in the “Rapunzel Room,” yours truly is having a little dirty fun in the Dungeon. I took a brief break to let the boy out of the cage and while I was waiting for him to shine and refit his hood (we need a lower-maintenance cage boy), I came across a fine slow-Sunday tidbit. Some of you might be familiar with the acrostic, a poem or word puzzle that spells a word or phrase with the first letter of each line, like so:
Happy day
Everyone loves Sunday
Life in the Dungeon
Provides joy.
Now I know you’re thinking “Awesome! I’m totally jazzed about acrostics! Let’s do some right now!” – but wait, would Le Dancer be that lazy with his news, even on a Sunday this dead? No, friends, no. The tidbit that I came across was this: unusual American composer John Cage developed his own version of the acrostic, the mesostic, in which the vertical word or phrase is spelled out by the letters at the center of the line, like my example in the picture above.
