The Advocate

All right, so the name of the site is GayGamer.net, I get that. The point is, that every so often we have to do a public service announcement and I think this is worthwhile. Don’t worry… I’ll get into my “gaming advocacy agenda” portion in the fourth paragraph.
The Advocate has come out with their first ever college guide for LGBT students. When The Advocate first announced the publication, I thought it was going to be a lame magazine, designed to generate ad revenue and stick young queers with lame information. Well, we got a copy of the book in the office yesterday and the thing is thick! Almost 400 pages and packed full of fantastic information (with no advertisements). Cheers to The Advocate! You aren’t entirely out of touch with young gays.
I am seriously impressed with the breadth and depth of the publication. It has the 100 best campuses, tells you where to hang out and resources available to students. If you are getting ready to look at colleges or are unhappy with your school due to the social scene, go out and get this book! I was absolutely blown away by the publication, it really is a must buy for any college aged GLBT youth.
OK, enough nice talk (but seriously go get it), I have a bone to pick with The Advocate. With The Advocate finally waking up and realizing that a well-adjusted youth generation is out there that doesn’t depend on bathhouses and dive bars, can we finally get a gaming column? A call to action readers: Let The Advocate, and it’s sister publication OUT, know that you want gaming covered! They have a new entertainment editor so now is the time to strike. They have ignored all previous requests to cover gaming, but it’s about time they started. I mean, if The Advocate doesn’t respect advocacy and a call to action, who will? Send an email to The Advocate’s entertainment editor with the subject Gay Video Game Player in the subject, here’s Corey Scholibo’s email: The Advocate Entertainment Editor , to make sure you can also CC the general mailbox .
