Ubisoft PR Explains Why Beyond Good And Evil Floundered

It was very sad to see Beyond Good and Evil flounder on the shelves for months after it’s release. BG&E is still one of the most thoughtful, original adventure games released on this past generation of consoles. Where else do you have a strong-willed female lead, who takes care of orphans, works as a photojournalist, and a revolutionary set to rip the veil off a corrupt government? It sounds a bit like Jem and Holograms, but Jade could kick Synergy’s circuits any day. The gameplay was wonderfully varied, from the action elements, stealth gameplay, and photo safari. “Gotta catch ‘em all.” Still curious why this game tanked, Joystiq pointed to an interview with Ubisoft’s PR Owen Hughes at Jump Button. Where he he relates the reasons behind BG&E’s poor sales, but unanimous critical acclaim.
