"Wii" Forgive?

Sunday will mark the 4 month (1 year in gay relationship time) anniversary of the console formerly known as the Revolution being renamed the Wii.
At the time, wii all had some strong feelings about the name change. As clearly evidenced by the fan art you see. It was all so surreal. The name change came weeks before the abso-frakin’ insane showing of the Wii by Nintendo at E3, which not only marked the possibility that Nintendo was ready to make a true bid for the top again, but also bizarrely heralded the fall of Sony’s Playstation by a giant enemy crab based on Japanese history .
So, now that wii all have seen more of the Wii and what it will offer, do we forgive Nintendo for the name change?

I said from the begining, it doesnt matter the name. If they market it cool, it’ll be cool. If they stick to clever stuff like “Together, Wii will change everything” or my favorite “Wii came, Wii conquered,” everyone will (and have allready) forget about it.
No, I don’t forgive them yet until they deliver something truly spectacular. Something that makes it’s way into every home in America (almost). When it becomes a household name like Playstation, then I will forgive the name change.
Although at first the Revolution being renamed the Wii was a bit wierd for me, I absolutely forgave them.
Because saying: “Wiiiiiiiiiiii” in a high pitched girly voice is fun, and it makes you wonder if playing with the Wii can provide this much fun. And I hope it does.
I love the name. “Revolution” was pathetic; it tried too hard to be edgy. I’m sick of game companies trying to make everything they do hip, urban and, worst of all, “hardcore”.
Wii is just a great name AND it helps you by showing people to avoid; the ones who insist on making fun of the urine connection ALL THE TIME. Win win!
I’m with Magic Pink. Revolution sounds too much like a nerd teenagey videogame thing, which is exactly what Nintendo is trying to avoid. It’s almost as bad as “XBox 360”.
Wii is perfect. I’m yet to see a single non-gamer dislike the name. Besides, unlike the four-syllable foreign word Revolution (re-bo-ryuu-shon), Wii sounds very natural and pronounceable in Japanese.

so true.
I too agree with Magic Pink. I’ll add that “Revolution” was a great way to get fanboy/fanpress attention, but it couldn’t be used to get the mainstream audience they are so intent on winning. A name change had to happen, and Wii really isn’t that bad.
Nothing will change the fact that kids will be going to their friend’s house to play with their Wii.
No, I have had too many conversations with people think I am talking about Wee. There is laughter afterwords, but it has happened too many times already.
Worst name for a console EVER!
I agree with Brook, Wii does nothing but enforce Nintendo’s already childish and low-tech approach to videogames. The name just sucks, there is nothing remotely cool about it.
i still say Wii sounds really silly or really childish….
which Nintendo always been marketed toward….
I hated it at first, but I also hated the concept of the low powered casual game system in the shadow of the PS3’s promise. Then I got a chance to play it and loved it. They could call it Poo and I’d still buy it. I particulary like “Wiimote”
I love the name. Its irreverent, original, and defiant. Y’all are going to buy it and have fun with it no matter what its named.
I would have to say everytime i say the name I laugh, and that is a good thing. I like the name so much that it brings a smile to my face just saying it cause it is such a funny/weird name.
