Brenda Brathwaite's Book Sex in Video Games

Yesterday I included Brenda Brathwaite in an article about the Gaming Industry’s 100 Women in Games. She has worked for 25 years in the industry writing, and designing such titles as Playboy: The Mansion, Dungeons & Dragons Heroes, and Wizardry 8. As a follow up about Brathwaite, her book Sex in Video Games is available in stores and at the Thompson Press site.

The book features:

Provides an insiders’ analysis of the sex in games issues and helps to formulate guidelines and answer questions to “where do we draw the line” and “is it worth the investment”

Studies the history of games that feature sexual content on PC and console platforms will be discussed along with the public/industry reaction to the game

Explains the ESRB Rating System to provide a framework for the most recent effort at self-governance and regulation of sexual content in games, including previous attempts and rating systems in other countries

Explores past and present litigation will be discussed to explore efforts at censorship as well as the industry’s response to it

Includes a wide range of interviews with industry leaders and case studies on specific platforms, including an interview with the “hot coffee” developer
