Microsoft Totally Cares About You

It’s all about mixed messages today, gentle readers. Maybe Planet Console is in retrograde or something. Hot on the heels of Microsoft’s HDMI no-go comes a press release from TGS announcing an upcoming Xbox 360 update that will enable 1080p output on the console. Previously the sole purview of the PS3 (poor Sony can’t get a break), 1080p is the gold standard of high-def, although hardly anyone in the galaxy has a screen capable of handling the retina-scarring glory of 1080 simultaneous lines of graphics at 60 frames per second. But Microsoft promises that for those whose hardware cuts the mustard, the update will upscale current games and DVDs and give its all to natively 1080p HD-DVD movies (that you’ll still only be able to watch through component cables – see what I mean about mixed messages?). There’s also the very real possibility of natively 1080p games in the future.
We hear that phrase a lot, don’t we? “In the future.” Does anybody have a release date on that? Because I’m getting impatient.

And thanks to 2old2play for the scoop.

ahh, retina-scarring glory indeed. i saw it once, at a freinds work. i ot lost in picking flowers during one of those “pretty picture shows” they play.
Shane Kim said pretty much all games will still be made in 720p, so pretty much everything will just be “upscaled” 1080p, not “true” 1080p.
Sony, on the other hand, is pushing developers for true 1080p.
rotfl!
“Resolution and input brouhaha”
The mere mention of that word makes me burst out laughing! XD
