New York - Tokyo Music Festival 2006: Update

Well the New York – Tokyo Music Festival 2006 has come and, well, not gone, since they’re still mixing it up in New York’s Central Park as I type. But it came, all right. And while there weren’t as many unreleased games on the floor as I’d hoped (We saw The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, IGPX, Armored Core: Last Raven, Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2 and One Piece: Grand Adventure, which were all on the floor and playable – but none of those titles are exactly hot off the presses), the scene was alive with hip hop and reggae and such. One highlight was watching a big-screen video of Guitar Hero II in action, which finally managed to get me interested in the series. (That and the two pierced cuties standing behind me who kindly explained what the h*ll was going on.) Any game where you get to play “Free Bird” is guaranteed to snare my inner redneck. The music scene dwarfed the gaming scene, so there wasn’t too much cosplay action going on – save for the lone GothLoli-boy pictured. Still, it was a fun afternoon here at the center of the universe.
