RUMOR: Wal-Mart Won't Take In the Wii...Demo Units?

Joystiq is reporting that Wal-Mart will not be carrying Wii demo units this holiday season. They’ve made an inquiry to Wal-Mart corporate with no response and “Nintendo doesn’t comment on rumors.” However, upon calling a few Wal-
Marts around the country, sleuth-extraordinaire, Alexander, uncovered that several Wal-Mart employees did say that the Wii will not be given demo space for the Q4….
A Joystiq tipster was told by his Wal-Mart manager that the reasoning for this was the “fear of some kid getting hurt or injuring others in the process of flailing his arms around.” As for conspiracy theories that Sony or Microsoft might have paid the giant to not have demo units, they are greatly unfounded as it could simply be an issue of timing:
“Although Nintendo and Wal-Mart won’t talk, employees from various Wal-Marts have stated that they expect to get their Wii demo units in for Q1 2007 and believe it was a timing issue. They did stress that although they will not be demoing the unit, they will certainly have the Wii for sale at launch in November.”
You know, tis’ sad to say, but I am more worried about what the poor, little Wiimotes will be going through. Just go to your local Wallyworld and take a look at the demo DS units, such a sad sight. I just cannot bear to look at them! /cry ...but fear not!! The world’s largest retailer will have units for sale on launch day.
