Shortbus
In a bid to prove once and for all that gay freaks are people, too, John Cameron Mitchell—better known to some of you as Hedwig—has at last given birth to a second filmic child: the highly anticipated, highly debated, not-yet-rated Shortbus. Generally described as a Robert Altman-meets-Chi Chi LaRue-esque story of love among the polymorphously perverse, Shortbus has generated lots of buzz for its mind-numbing amounts of nudity, but nearly everyone who’s seen the film assures me that beyond all the naughty bits lies an engaging story of friendships and lives that intersect in meaningful ways. Why, it’s a film for the whole family!
Now, living in the hinterland of New Orleans, I won’t have the chance to screen the film until next week, but luckily, closepersonalfriend Damon DeMarco over at Fleshbot caught the glam-packed New York premiere and gave a lovely write-up, including some post-show party pics. Of course, everyone knows that Fleshbot is totally Not Safe for Work, but then, it’s Saturday, so really, why would you be working? Anyway, you can read Damon’s review here. (Note to thespians: the Justin Bond you see in some of Damon’s photos is, of course, the legendary Kiki DuRane of Kiki and Herb fame. So much edgy stardom in one little film!)
And as an added bonus, here’s the Shortbus trailer. There’s an uncensored one, too, but you’ll have to visit the official movie site for that, dearie.

Hedwig is hands down on of my favorite movies. Lookin’ forward to this one.
I just saw Shortbus a few weeks ago and was blown away. I haven’t seen so much genetalia in the movie theater in quite some time. ;) If anyone out there hasn’t seen it, the nervous laughter in the movie theater during the opening sex scenes, is work the price of admission.
