Sony Preps PS3 Kiosk Invasion

It looks like Sony thinks that getting gamers’ hands on the PS3’s udders will convince them to buy the next-gen cow regardless of cost. Gamasutra reports that Sony is planning five times as many demonstration booths to promote the PS3 than they did for the PS2. That’s $30mil for 15,000 consoles in North American stores by Christmas – even though only 400,000 PS3 units will actually be available on this continent at launch. Says SCEA co-chief operating officer Jack Tretton:
Once the consumers get their hands on a PS3 and understand what’s under the hood, I think price will not be a factor in the decision-making process.
Them’s fightin’ words, Jack. I’m sure that seeing the PS3 in action will whet the appetites (and loosen the purse strings) of many gamers, yours tinily included, but come on...what is it with Sony and patently untrue declarations? Jack, honey, price will always be a factor.
Unless it’s a magic mind-control kiosk. Is it a magic mind-control kiosk? Is it?
Now give me my PS3.
