Straight Gamers Facinated By All Things Gay?

I’m always amused when someone writes about Cho-Aniki. Destructoid posted an article about it yesterday in their Wierd Game Wednesday feature and Kotaku’s own sexually questionable Florian Eckhardt picked it up today. For some reason all these straight boys get very excited talking about these outrageous muscle men and thier many adventures in the world of more musclemen.

As a matter of fact, it poses many questions about the “straightness” of video games in general. Dead Rising is a hugely popular game which a goodly portion of it is spent finding all the different costumes including female attire. XBox Live marketplace is also providing fashion conscious gamers with regular new outfits for Frank West. I have many straight MMO friends who refuse to go to battle without their favorite color coordinated armor. And of course there’s the whole guys-playing-girls online issue.

When we first posted our Top 20 Gayest Video Game Characters list, it spread like wildfire across the internet, getting posted about from here to Timbuktu. Three of the sites that gave us the most traffic were Gorillamask.net, Ebaums’ World and CollegeHumor.com, all sites targeted mainly to heterosexual males. And we are talking about thousands of visits from each of those places. I’m certainly not saying that we’re not thrilled to be read by whoever chooses to come here. This is a public site and everyone is welcome. Interestingly enough, with the exception of InNewsweekly, no gay press picked up on the story at all, but the straight press had a field day with it and loved it!

Just what is the fascination with all things gay by a group who by and large claim to not care about those things in real life?
