Tokyo: SEGA Booth
Well, the final day of the 2006 Tokyo Game Show is upon us, and I finally have a chance to catch my breath and share some of the cool stuff we got to see and play. Let’s take a stroll over to Sega’s booth and…say, what’s Carmen Miranda doing here?

Well, the final day of the 2006 Tokyo Game Show is upon us, and I finally have a chance to catch my breath and share some of the cool stuff we got to see and play. Let’s take a stroll over to Sega’s booth and…say, what’s Carmen Miranda doing here?
Apparently, she’s playing Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, a Wii (launch?) title with more monkeys, more mazes, more mini-games…and hopefully less frustration than the series is known for. We all know monkeys make everything better, but not if they make you want to throw your controller. Though the game was unplayable at the booth, Carmen was clearly making good use of the Wii-mote to get her monkey moving.
Meanwhile, this Arabian princess was showcasing Sonic for the Wii, also sadly unplayable. (Grrr!) Personally, I was underwhelmed by the PS3 iteration of next-gen Sonic, but this Wii version really got me jazzed. Princess here used the Wii controller to steer Sonic, and with a flick of her wrist, she could make him jump. The demo looked incredibly responsive and surprisingly fun and fast. It’s high time for Sonic to be cool again. I want I want I want!
Finally, the sequel to one of the Dreamcast’s weirdest titles is on its way…and it’s called Seaman 2. (Insert your own semen joke here.) The game was not playable on the floor, but we’ve seen screenshots popping up on the net.
Overall, Sega had a fine showing. They’re also on an import binge, bringing Western games like Destroy All Humans, The Outfit, and Tomb Raider Legend to Eastern shores. And let’s not forget Virtua Fighter 5—featuring “hot” new Latino fighter El Blaze!
