2nd Annual Ed Wood Machinima Contest In Second Life

Not being a follower of Second Life, I can’t really say anything about it and sound knowledgeable. But I will say that it seems like the MySpace of MMO’s: bands using it to promote themselves, product placement and the buzz word of all buzz words “personal branding”. In a larger sense though, they also create a sense of community and bring people together of like minds who might never meet otherwise.
The subject that brings like minds together this time, are the films of Ed Wood, famed angora loving director of such stink-bombs as Plan Nine from Outer Space and Glenn or Glenda. Highly touted as “the worst director of all time” (obviously pre Uwe Boll), Wood’s work inspired Tim Burton’s semi-biopic Ed Wood and has now inspired a Second Life machinima contest. This weekend, inside the world’s largest living advertisement, fans will be given 48 hours to create an Ed Wood inspired piece which will then be judged in the following categories: Worst Film, Worst Story, Worst Acting, Worst Costumes, and Most Disturbing Film. Approximately $60,000 in prize money will be given away to the lucky makers of these terrible films.
On Friday, at midnight, we will announce a title for all the films on this webpage here. You will have the next two days to make it, good or bad. To submit a movie, email a file or URL to edwood@alt-zoom.com, or give a link to Buhbuhcuh Fairchild or Moo Money in Second Life by Midnight, Sunday (pacific time). Submissions need to be in a downloadable format – Quicktime, WMV, or AVI is reccomended – NO FLASH!
If anyone decides to submit a piece in this, let us know so we can all go vote for you!

I thought Second Life was going to be pretty cool a couple years ago, but now it’s just pretty much real life with trashier costumes and a lower poly count.
