Family Guy Game In Stores, But Does It Suck?

So what gives?
2K Games’ Family Guy has hit store shelves in PS2, Xbox, and PSP formats, and the silence surrounding its release is deafening. For the past few weeks, we’ve been subjected to a barrage of media from the game. Hell, Adam West himself showed up at E3 to promote the game! However, there has yet to be a single review on the web. Oh, sure, there are more previews than you can shake a stick at, but when you start looking for an actual review to see if the game’s actually worth buying… well, I have yet to find a single one. There’s nothing on Metacritic or Gamerankings, and I haven’t seen any reviews through my regular news sources.
Normally, when this happens in the movie industry, Roger Ebert issues the “Wagging Finger of Shame” to the distributing studio and the film itself turns out to be a total piece of drek. We here at GayGamer are seriously hoping that the game isn’t so bad that 2K didn’t want it reviewed in advance, but after previews like the one over at 1up it seems like a bit too much to hope for:
Brian’s stealth missions look like they may present the game’s Achilles heel because of their slow pace and simplicity. While sneaking around is easy in its own right, prison guards seem oblivious to Brian’s movements so long as direct eye contact isn’t made. This makes things rather confusing as to what you can and can’t get away with. Sure, sneaking past prisoners along a straight line of jail cells is easy enough, but once you enter a crowded police station the task becomes much more daunting, and, well, not that fun. It’ll be interesting to see how these stages ramp up over the course of the game, because if they add new mechanics, great, but if they just provide bigger and bigger police station grids, it’ll be a letdown.
Have you played the game yet? Let us know how it is!
