Jack Thompson Cites "Gay Sex" In Bully Is Harmful To Minors
Jack Thompson just keeps digging his grave deeper and deeper. Thompson is attacking Rock Star’s Bully from another angle now, by claiming that the “homosexual activity” is harmful to minors.
Thompson wrote an e-mail to Paul Eiberler, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, with the subject line of “Gay Sex in Bully Video Game; Retail Sale of Sexual Material Harmful to Minors.”
Here is what he said in his email:
It is my legal opinion that the sale of this game to minors, which is presently occurring at your stores in Florida, violates Florida’s “Sexual Material Harmful to Minors Statute”, Florida Statute 847.102. Each such sale to a minor constitutes a separate felony.
He goes on, I suggest strongly that all of you cease and desist all such sales in the United States immediately. Neither the game’s maker, Take-Two, nor the Entertainment Software Rating Board, told you of this homosexual content, which constitutes a fraudulent and deceptive trade practice, in my opinion, on their parts, and I have alerted the Federal Trade Commission to this.
I am amazed that people who are this judgmental of homosexual behavior are allowed to practice law. He is bending the truth to feed his need for media attention. Not only has he perpetuated a media frenzy concerning a game that has gotten a Teen rating, and has no killing involved in the gameplay, but now he is attempting to flex his homophobic prowess across a country by claiming that Bully’s “Gay Sex” may be harmful to children and needs to be taken off of the shelves immediately. Bully has no gay sex in it, just kissing. Why is that so inflammatory? Is he saying that it’s alright to kiss the girls, but not the boys? Thompson is a media whore who just wants to push his narrow minded sensibilities onto an entire nation. It is shameful that he calls himself a lawyer, with so much bile and hatred spewing from his forked tongue.
I can’t believe in this day and age, that lawyers are allowed to speak so publicly against homosexuality. He claims that it’s all about the kids and he wants to end the senseless violence. What about gay kids who have to fight so hard to struggle in a world that is set up for straight society? Eventually figuring out that because they have these natural feelings, they are going to have to struggle their entire life with gaining acceptance and rights that their straight counterparts never have to deal with.
If he only knew how much hatred and intolerance he is spreading. It’s sentiment like his that causes violence against gay people of any age. When people are told that gay is bad, it causes conflict. Why not promote tolerance and acceptance and uphold those ideals in court? Greater work can be done for ending senseless violence by making sure that people are not judged by who they sleep with, but by who they are and how they treat others.

No surprise! It seems that actions against homosexual-related subjects are still a topic of hot debate. This IS a “Christian” country, most of our goverment is ran by the ideals of Christianity… to a degree anyways. We need to get someone into power who doesn’t rely on religion, but reason and logic. :\ It’s merely my opinion anywho. All together, I feel someone REALLY needs to stand up to this guy. Far as I’ve seen, we’re just sitting back and letting people think he’s right. Surely there are children around the ages of 13 and 16 that can protest that violent games have done little to change how they behave. Problem is, unless you’re rich, very intelligent, there is little chance the “Higher powers” will pay attention.
Sad.. But unfortunately he knows many people think like he does, so he manages to drag them along on his ride
I’m not sure he even actually believes what he’s saying, he just likes the attention and using the gay kissing as a bargaining chip.
Toots, don’t you know that Jack is God’s chosen warrior in his “culture war”? Seriously, he makes that claim in his book. The man is a Bible-thumping zealot whose intolerance is only rivaled by his greed (why do you think he only goes after Take Two, Wal-Mart, and Sony?). I can’t wait for the day he gets disbarred.
I imagine this will be the straw that breaks the camels back as far as people taking Jack Thompson seriously goes. While there are a lot of dumb people who’d want to get rid of any sign of homosexuality, I’m sure the judges intelligence combined with the amount of scrutiny this case is under will result in it becoming very apparent to the average person how ridiculous Jack Thompson actually is. I hope.

I’m not gay. Yet I love this site. Even if only for the different spectrum of views on games and news.
Maybe it was just the way I was raised but not for one second have I ever thought that being homosexual was wrong. Even as a little kid it was one of those things I didn’t really care about. heck I remember when I went to Disney world there were these two guys holding hands. My mother later praised me for not saying anything. I was like, was I supposed to notice them above the other thousand people holding hands in that park? It just…it is just beyond my comprehension that anyone could hate someone for something that doesn’t concern them. If you’re not gay, don’t worry about what they do and don’t do. It doesn’t concern you. Let them live their life as they see fit. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Isn’t that what the words that built this country?
People like Jack Thomson are poison. They ARE the ones corrupting the young. How can he think that such behavior is a good example for his own kids? He’s preaching hate! He has repeated misused the system which should be used to help victims, and put away the bad guys.
Instead he’s wasting his time on a game that has a T rating and if you want can have two boys kissing!
I don’t know how old his kids are or how many he has, but I pity them. Growing up with a dad that hates so ruthlessly can’t be good for you.
I got past outrage when thinking about Jack Thompson like a year ago. Now, while I recognize he’s a fuckwit, I think in more pragmatic terms.
Think about it: while Jack himself appears to be a christlicking conservative, many of the people most publicly in favor of ratings systems and restricting content in the arts and media have been supposedly liberal (Hillary Clinton, Tipper Gore, et al.)
However, most of those liberal politicians will not support gay-bashing, and I bet Jack will be sacrificing their support if he pursues this very far.
Not that Jack cares about anyone’s support as long as he’s able to put out press releases and keep his 15 minutes going a little longer, but at least more famous people should stop going, “Yeah, what he said.”

What is wrong with this strange man? He seems to have some major psychological issues! Why doesnt he get on with his life and leave us all alone? After playing “Canis Canem Edit” for a few hours I still didn’t manage to kiss a boy – but had to kiss several girls already, so first, kissing is not “gay sex” and second, you really have to want to kiss a boy, otherwise you definitely won’t see this charming little feature.
Even though most of us see how wrong Jack Thompson is, there’s a real need for someone to stand from the law. But really, what the hell is this guy’s problem? It’s like Bully seduced him but left him alone after a brutal session of videogame sex, and now he’s jealous everybody will get some except, well, him.

Clearly, someone needs to explain to this “lawyer” the notion of jurisidictional limits and that community standards in Florida are not national standards just because the President’s idiot brother is in charge.

I have been unfortunate enough to have several email conversations with Jack Thompson recently (see grumpygamer.biz for details) and I do genuinely wonder about his sanity.
He sent me an insulting email due to a preview I wrote of Bully. So I asked him if this was the private face of his very public Christianity – being a Christian myself I find his behaviour and misuse of the faith reprehensible. He wrote back to say that “jesus insulter the pharisees…get used to it”.
Not a nice guy then. Yesterday he called me an idiot too. It’s all a bit sad really isn’t it?
I’m a Roman Catholic Theologian, in our shools in Brazil we teach our beloved children to respect other styles of life and to live happy in a diversiform world, it is a big mistake to hide a reality that later our children will face. From a Theologian point of view I must say that Homophoby is a comdemn actitud by Jesus Christ.God loves in a especial way our Gay and Lesbian youth.
He really is an overgrown child. When someone tells him he can’t have what he wants he throws a temper tantrum and calls people stupid. Don’t let the fact that he has a law degree reflect in any way on his supposed status as a mature adult.
The next time you see a quote by Mr. Thomspson just read it as : WAAAAAH WAAAAAH WAAAAAAAAH…instead, I know it brings a smile to my face :)

Ok, this is the first time that I’ve heard of this freakazoid. I really had no intention of wasting my money on this game, but now his comments have convenced me to by it, if for no other reason then to piss him off by increasing the sales of the game. I would suggest that everyone buy it for this reason and get their friends to do the same.
