Mario Touches Slime

Once the collaboration king, Capcom seems too busy making their own survival horror games to play-fight with SNK anymore. But two other popular developers are getting cozy under the covers. Square Enix announced a board game project featuring the perpetually popular Nintendo.

While currently skim on details, the game will feature characters from the Dragon Quest and Super Mario Brothers series. It will be second in the Itadaki Street series, the predecessor on Playstation 2 featured characters from Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Square Enix is developing this version exclusively for the Nintendo DS and features wireless and Wi-Fi support. More information will be released in the near future. Unfortunately, it is unknown if the game will be released internationally. The premier Itadaki Street was only available in Asia. However, this version has a better chance in America as multiplayer support and boardgames are attractive to the diverse DS user demographic worldwide.

Mmm, I can smell the slimy mushrooms cooking in the Square Enix kitchen right now.

Update: Reader Eric B. called attention that The Magicbox has posted scans from a unconfirmed Japanese magazine with screenshots from the game. Thanks Eric!

If unholy game crossovers are wrong, then I don’t want to be right.
