Phil Harrison Spins Blu-Ray Game Capacity

Sony’s loopy nightingale, Phil Harrison, is crooning about the mounting data filling up the 25GB available on Blu-ray discs for PS3 launch titles, and he promises that by this time next year the space available will have doubled to 50GB. But it’s not about movies, Harrison says, oh, no. Not even a lil’ bit. The format war is taking place in another universe:
It’s not just about graphics…it’s about 7.1 audio, it’s about speech, it’s about having up to 1080p movies built into the game; it’s high-res textures, it’s animation, it’s everything that goes into making a very rich and varied next-gen experience.
Ok, so I’m as sick as the rest of the known universe of hearing about this freaking “next-gen experience.” It’s not the Second Coming, y’all. It’s nicer-looking video games…maybe. But 7.1 audio, 1080p game content…twist my arm, already. Could it be that Sony’s PR swami may not be full of horse doody this time?
