Toys 'R' Us Insanity On The West Coast

So I decided to stop by Toys ‘R’ Us after I saw The Prestige last night (excellent movie; David Bowie totally steals the show with his fabulous performance as Nikola Tesla) to see if my small corner of the world had been caught up in the PS3 pre-order insanity.
Unsurprisingly, even the Pleasant Hill Toys ‘R’ Us had a line of people at roughly 10 PM last night. I chatted with the guys for a few minutes before and after taking their group picture (there were a couple of guys who decided they didn’t want to be in the photo- their loss), and they were all pretty excited about the PS3 and playing some of the upcoming games like Resistance: Fall of Man. I have to admit, I didn’t ask them about whether they planned to sell the console on eBay because I really didn’t want to be depressed by the response. However, none of these guys were actually waiting to pre-order the Wii console, which surprised me a bit.

After talking with them for a little bit, they recommended I head over to the store in Oakland to get a picture of that line: after some investigation on the company’s website, it turns out that there isn’t a store there anymore so this entry only gets one photo.
Luckily for them, the weather was pretty mild at approximately 60 degrees and with a clear sky overhead, plus they had all sorts of devices with which to entertain themselves such as PSPs, DSs, and rather large radios. If it were me, I would’ve brought a Hibachi barbecue, but I’ve never really seen the point of standing in line just to pre-order something anyway.
Still, my hat’s off to you, gentleman in my photograph: I love you for being such utter nerds that you’re willing to wait overnight in order to game on the next-generation of consoles. I just happen to think you’re a little crazy, too ;)
