Yeah... I Think This Is One Offer To Refuse

Sometimes you read about some corporate decisions and have to scratch your head and wonder: EA, it seems, has decided that gamers have to pay extra if they want to cheat.
Major Nelson reported on his blog exactly what players can purchase for The Godfather via Xbox Live. It’s actually a fairly large list, including special weaponry, missions, and… in-game money. Yeah, you read that right: EA has effectively started gold-farming the game’s currency. If you don’t want to drop XBL points on a bunch of different items, perhaps I could interest you in this fine little bundle:
Name: The Don Collection
Available in: All regions
Price: 800 Points
Dash Details: Become a “made man” with the ultimate collection of weapons, money and in-game items. You will receive all 5 Level-4 weapons upgrades, $50K, $100K and $250K in-game money downloads. Additionally, you’ll receive the MobFace apparel bundle, Favor Pack with 3 new missions and the Buddy Crew upgrade. All items sold individually on Xbox Live Marketplace!
So, if you want to cheat, knock yourself out and spend some hard-earned coin on something that should be free in what is effectively a high-gloss GTA clone. Me? I’m gonna go spend my cash on something that still has cheat codes included in its programming.

They’re crazy.
I wouldn’t do it, but they’re far from crazy. This costs them essentially nothing to produce, but will appeal to older gamers who don’t have a lot of free time and have a large amount of disposable income. They want to basically play around in a virtual sandbox with no restrictions right from the get-go. I can definitely see 30-something casual gamers taking advantage of this.
Once again my boycott of EA is justified.
Is it really a boycott if they never actually make anything worth buying? The whole “tree falls in the woods” thing.
Okay, granted, EA only publishes like…1 game a year worth buying (Burnout), but still, I only bought Burnout 3 used, so EA got not a single red cet of my cash.
