Farewell, "Official Playstation Magazine"

Playstation’s longest running magazine Official Playstation Magazine has met an untimely end in the wake of the next-gen mania. The publication was notable for not only being the oldest and most reliable for PS news, but also included that little gem that made everyone scramble, the demo disc.

Now, with PS3, 360 and Wii’s online capabilities, the demo disc is all but defunct. With the advent of the interwebs and sites like 1up.com and the blogosphere, people just aren’t buying gaming magazines like they used to. Why wait a month for the news when you can get it daily from the web? I can’t help but think that we here at GG somehow contributed a bit to the demise of this great magazine and that truly saddens me. Farewell, Official Playstation Magazine, we’ll miss you!

That’s kinda sad. I remember reading them in the grocery store when I had to go shopping with my mom. There was just something nice about reading printed reviews every once in a while.

Was it really all that reliable? I always assumed it was the “official company line”.

I’ll feel bad when the same thing happens to Nintendo Power (though on the bright side, the same phenomenon that killed OPSM forced NP to turn into a halfway decent magazine about a year ago.)

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
