Gaming Industry Sales For October

Next-Gen has posted some U.S. gaming sales figures for October, which show a 16% rise in overall videogame software, hardware and accessory sales. The little Nintendo DS served up some fierce competition, outselling all other systems by about 85,000 units. The grand total comes to 320,000 DS units, 235,000 PS2s, 218,000 Xbox 360s, and trailing in behind the bunch 130,000 PSP. Get this, Nintendo’s last generation handheld, GameBoy Advance selling 169,000 units, outsold Sony’s current gen PSP by 39,000 units. Ohhhh, that’s rich, it is to laugh. Wow Sony, maybe you should do something with that thing before it’s dead in the water.
Overall the sales were up 16% in the game industry this October, probably because of all of the next gen excitement right around the corner.

And look at those awful Xbox 360 numbers! Less than PS2! Yikes… that doesn’t bode well for MS this xmas.
I have to say the 360 is selling a lot less than I expected. Weren’t they touting a “10 million unit lead” by the time the PS3 and Wii rolled around? They’re nowhere near that.
Crazy DS numbers too. Redesigning that puppy was the smartest thing they ever did.
I heart my DS; it really is an awesome system.
