Halo 3 Ponders Female Multiplayer Voices, Ellen Pre-Cast?
Always a bridesmaid, never a SPARTAN-II supersoldier? The squad at Bungie has issued a call to gauge interest in adding a female voice to the options for Halo 3 multiplayer. Oh, this woman’s work! The most recent Bungie Weekly Update fields the question after acknowledging that female gamers represent a “significant chunk” of its player base, but stops just shy of commitment (insert weak Cathy joke here). I can’t imagine why a woman’s voice wouldn’t fly: who didn’t love butch shorty Pvt. Vasquez in Aliens? Or butch giant Sigourney Weaver, for that matter? Bungie did promise not to fly off the handle if the move goes through:
If we do it, it won’t be comical, stereotypical or insulting – we’ll pick a great, strong female actress who can pull off bloodcurdling death cries and rattles…If you girls think it would be cool, then comment in the forums, spam me with PMs or start a petition on your own sites and forums. Then we’ll have to listen.
Now for what everyone’s secretly thinking: yes, this is clearly an opening gambit in the PR waltz that will see Ellen DeGeneres cast as Master Chief in the super-secret and totally not shelved Halo film. Yes. It may even be better than If These Walls Could Talk 2. And we owe it all to Shin Gallon.
