Heroes Gets A Brand New Title

Suda 51 of Grasshopper Manufacture has tossed out Heroes as the title for his new game. Now it will be called No More Heroes. It seems like he wanted to go for a darker, nihilistic connotation with the title. Whatever, Heroes, No More Heroes, I just want to play the game.

More details about the game surfaced in Famitsu recently. Players control Travis Touchdown, who is a dork who wins a Beam Katana in an online auction. He then seeks out new career possibilities as a professional killer. He gets in contact with an organization of assassins called the UAA. He is inducted at rank 11, and is encouraged to track down all of the killers of higher rank.

The main location is a large city called Santa Destroy, which has a Western US feel. Travis progresses through the story by facing off with his 10 main adversaries. Along the way, he can explore Santa Destroy and take large and small missions to earn some money to purchase items and new weapons. I love this. Players can dress Travis in over 100 different t-shirts, each with abilities unique to that shirt.

The Wii-mote can be held in three different positions, upwards, downwards, and centered, denoting the stance of Travis’ attack. Standard attacks can be issued with the A button, but some finishing moves require sweeping movements dictated on the screen.

No More Heroes has a release date set for Summer 2007 release in Japan, and should come stateside a few months later.

i think it’s great and all that we’re seeing more games being designed with the ambition of being more than just fluffy entertainment – but can we have some themes ‘other’ than murder/death/kill..

this game holds no appeal to me (beyond buying new clothes – heh)..

It’ll be beyond murderdeathkilling, trust me. Killer 7 was waaaaaay more beyond the the “Heaven Smile” or Herman Smith than anyone could have expected. If Suda51 stays true to his past works, it’ll awesome.

Just, hire some real voice actors, eh?

The initial footage of this looked very cool, though my god they better get new voce actors! Now that there is a little more info on it, it sounds pretty cool. Different T-shirts with special powers? Jiggy what?!? I can’t wait to see what designs these t-shirts have, I was all ready admiring the initial t-shirt which was little chibi anime girls and hearts. :D

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
