Namco Claims High Sales Needed For PS3 Profit

In order for Namco to make a profit on its PS3 titles, it appears that they need to sell 500,000 copies of each game. While that seems a tad unbelievable, the information comes from Namco president Takeo Takasu himself.
According to Takasu, a large part of the the budget for games goes into the graphical development… often costing well over $7 Million USD alone. While 500,000 copies seems like a reasonable number, right now it’s pretty unfeasible since less than two-fifths of that many PS3s themselves have been sold. While Namco’s PS3 launch titles have done admirably so far, though, it seems that they still have a long way to go before the company begins to make some money back:
Namco Bandai released Ridge Racer 7 and Mobile Suit Gundam for the PlayStation 3, both of which were the highest-selling games on the weekend of release, shifting around 22,000 units each.
