PS3 Euro Launch Slipping Into Limbo?

Sony Worldwide Studios overlord Phil Harrison has cast a deeper pall over the PS3 “failure to launch”-themed launch. (You probably didn’t think it could get any more palled at casa de la Sony. You wuz wrong.) Seems Phil’s latest comments on “semi-official” blog Three Speech (which sounds an awful lot like a certain corporate entity’s attempt to keep it real with the funky fresh kids and their totally gnarly blogs, yo), raise the question of the PS3’s already-delayed-until-March European launch, which may very well have slipped into limbo.
In a transcription of the latest and still unreleased issue of The Official UK PlayStation Magazine, Harrison responds to the rather specific question: “On asking if the PS3 will definitely be out in March in Europe…”
“Given that all of our previous statements about launching in Europe simultaneously with the US and Japan turned out not to be the case, I would not like to make any definitive statements on that. It’s not my job to comment on hardware supply issues other than to say some very smart people are working very hard to catch up. In fact, the ramp up is already starting to happen in supply and output, just obviously too late for us to have launched in Europe at the same times as the US.”
Color me jaded, but I’ll take that as a “No, guv’, definitely not. No PS3 for in you March, old chap. Maybe never. Ha! Fat chance gettin’ in good with the missus when you come home ‘n tell the kiddies that. Greedy little urchins, they is. All of ‘em!” Um…yeah. In my head, Phil Harrison’s real voice is that of a Cockney manservant. Psychosis aside, the breakdown of the worldwide PS3 launch continues to have disappointing aftershocks that leave pretty much anyone anywhere uncertain when or if they’ll get a PS3. Not a good time.

There’s just a little hope that the PS3 will sell even worse than the PSP from my side – the more i hear/read, the less i think i want to have such a thing in my possession. So don’t worry Sony, you don’t have to release the PS3 for me in march, might already be happy with my X360 and WII.
See? Did I not comment before, here at gaygamer, on how Sony was not gonna live up to that March date?
Europe won’t be getting PS3 till Summer 2007 or maybe even September / Fall 2007. It’s that simple.
And, quite frankly, all this next-gen B*llSh*T is not living up to expectations. XBox360 has few true killer apps: Dead Rising, GoW.. its mainly a FPS (read: western) console; Wii has Zelda… but what else for the next 3 / 6 months? Does Mario Galaxies even have a release date yet? What we saw at E3 looked more like a tech demo than an actual game, to me.. / PS3 has Motorstorm… and costs hundreds more than the competition, and houses a format that I’m not eager to adopt.. Moving from VHS to DVD was revolutionary… Moving from DVD to BR / HD-DVD not so; Bill Gates was right on this; this is the last physical support we’re getting for our films and music; the future is online.
I say, get the Wii, pray Nintendo has more killer games on the way, and hope for the best.
Cheers,
T.
