Saturday Morning Cartoons: Super Mario World

Follow the Star Road all the way back to 1991, when Super Mario World joined Captain N in bringing 32-bit adventure to Saturday mornings. Kind of a strange cross between the Flintstones and Capt. Lou Albano’s Super Mario Brother’s Super Show, Super Mario World took the prehistoric aspect of the titular SNES game and ran and ran and ran with it. While kind of a strange idea, details like using noises straight from the game (the Blarg lava monster actually makes the Blarg noise), Yoshi’s adorable voice, and a script that lets Luigi say things like, “I’m stylin’!” made the show pretty enjoyable.
Buckle up for episode 2 of the series, “The Wheel Thing” (complete with inexplicable Jamaican-sounding theme song and mid-show musical number) right after the jump!
