Sony Loses $$$ On Each PS3

According to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony will lose over $300 on each 20GB PS3 sold, and over $240 on the 60GB unit. The electronic specialist iSuppli estimates the manufacturing cost of the 20GB model is $805.85. Apparently, you do get what you pay for. From the GamesIndustry.biz article:
Although iSuppli reveals shock at the loss, it is also impressed with the level of design and engineering that has gone into the console, currently launching across North America.
“To give an example of how cutting edge the design is, in the entire history of the iSuppli Analysis team, we have seen only three semiconductors with 1200 or more pins. The PlayStation 3 has three such semiconductors all by itself,” said Andrew Rassweiler, senior analyst for iSuppli.

Don’t makers always lose money on their consoles? Given, $300 seems a bit much, but I thought the real money comes from the games.
According to what I read in reports, it will take years before Sony even breaks even, and that utterly hinges on them selling every single PS3 made (and that’s not even figuring in the potential recalls of defected first batch PS3s due to the rush job).
So factor in software sales trying to make up for that. However, with many third party devs and publishers trying to ease the VERY high cost of making games for next gen consoles (EA, Ubisoft, etc.), expect to see titles showing up for both PS3 and X360, which means less money made for Sony from less exclusive games, particularly in North America and Europe.
