The Original Ending For The Little Shop Of Horrors
The original ending for the movie version of “Little Shop of Horrors” closely resembles the stage version, where all of the main characters died. Test audiences didn’t like this ending, so a new ending was filmed and that’s what was released in the theaters and on DVD. Although this footage was included in the first pressing of the DVD, in the special features section, not many people got to see it. Apparently the studios didn’t approve this footage, so all of the first edition DVDs were recalled. A few surviving copies exist with the original footage still intact.
Only a few months after the recall, these DVDs were going for about $250 on eBay. I couldn’t afford it then, and I thought I would never see the original footage. Thanks to my friend Gerald and this YouTube find, my dreams have come true and I can share this long lost footage with our readers. This ending is decidedly darker, but it stays true to the original material, and the Godzilla like Audey IIs rampaging through New York city is absolutely priceless.
