The PS3: Not Exactly Bulletproof

There are a number of words one can use to describe the soon-to-be-released PS3: shiny, quiet, powerful, highway robbery, insanely cool, but apparently “tough” can’t be applied too easily.
Over at Gizmodo, it seems that their PS3 isn’t the most durable of devices. No doubt those jerks dropped it a couple of times or decided to try polishing the surface with steel wool, right? Not so much:
Friday, when Jason and I took the retail PS3 out of its box and within a few seconds it was covered in dust.
I wiped some off with my hand, and lo and behold, it was scratched up to hell.
You’ll want to keep yours in an oxygen bubble for maximum shinatude.
I’ll say this for the Xbox 360: it may not be the prettiest console out on the market, but I’m fairly sure I could use it to club baby seals and then boot it up for a few more hours of Dead Rising love.

Heck, you can probably use the 360 to club the zombies too.
Since when has a Sony-made product EVER been durable? Really?
Well, my 8 year old Sony DVD player still works perfectly fine, as does my 9 year old Sony TV and my 5 year old PS2 (both of them).
Hm. My Sony MD’s players never went above 9 months lifetime… all 4 of them…
BUT I’ll have to say, regarding this picture, you need to have a hand like a bear’s paw to scrath something like that. Whos this guy, a werewolf?
T.
Not sure, but I’ll be looking into some sort of clear-coat protection for mine once I finally get one.
Sounds just like the tragic tale of my iPod nano.
Somehow in the course of sending it from package to pocket it picked up a ton of scratches.
How is that even possible?!
iPod Nanos were notorious for being easily scratched, even moreso than regular iPods (my 20 gig iPod rests safely inside a case, to protect from such misfortune).
I’m gonna be giving these guys a call when I get a PS3, maybe they’ll have something for it by then:

Perhaps my PS2 was some kind of mutant. Hell, it’s outlasted all of the NES’s I’ve ever owned.
I only had one issue when it stopped reading CDROM based disks. Then I cleaned the lens, and it worked fine.
Aye Paul, my PS2 is still the original one that I got years and years ago. The disc tray is a little wonky sometimes, it’ll get caught on something, but it works just fine. :3
