White-Wolf Merges With CCP

White Wolf Inc, most famous for its goth-angst RPG Vampire: The Masquerade, announced that it is going to merge with CCP (the force behind MMO cult hit EVE Online). While that doesn’t sound like it’s that big a deal right now, it very well could lead to some major developments in the near future:
The merged company will enable CCP to integrate White Wolf’s leading expertise in offline gaming development to enhance and create physical products for its MMOG, EVE Online. Products to be introduced in 2007 will include strategy guides, enhanced collectable card games, role-playing systems, and novels all based on EVE Online. White Wolf will leverage CCP’s industry-leading technologies to bring its offline role-playing titles online. Conceptualization and early development has begun to bring White Wolf’s World of Darkness, one of the world’s strongest gaming properties, into the online world.
I never got around to playing EVE Online, but a number of my friends are still hopelessly addicted to that franchise. From what I understand, CCP is a quality studio that really puts their all into each product they release. While a lot of people might be dubious about the genre merger of a sci-fi game developer with a major pen-and-paper RPG, it should be pointed out that White Wolf actually has a substantial sci-fi franchise under its belt already.
What I’m curious to know is which World of Darkness the press release means: are we talking about the current WoD or the one it replaced. Personally, I’d love to see a console or PC RPG (a la Oblivion) based on Changeling: The Dreaming, but it’s not up to me. Seeing as how that was one of the least-successful titles in the original World of Darkness, I don’t see that happening any time soon.
Gaming Industry Innovators CCP and White Wolf to Merge

Heh. I’m the same way. Let us pipe dream together!
Very Interesting. EVE is a fantastic game (once you get past the learning curve) with an amazing amount of depth. This combination could work very well.
Ah every time I read something about White Wolf I have to remember that Troika Games is dead… the world is a sad place ;__;
Agreed… however, Troika also had a lot of bugs with every one of their games. Their titles were brilliant, but more than a little flawed. Ooooh… an Arcanum-style RPG in the World of Darkness setting. How cool would that be?
This is great news for the White Wolf fans tired of exchanging rumors about how the company is slowly out of business. This also gets me really excited about an Exalted game. Oooh, or even better! A video game based of their World of Warcraft tabletop game… wait a second.
I use to play Vampire: The Masquerade and Changling, even have a Toreador clan symbol tattooed on my back.
Faith, that is so insanely hot that I feel compelled to ask you on a date.
But Whitewolf is remaking changeling for the new WoD!!! (At least they ran an ad saying they were)
Vampire is most likely going to be first, it’s their flagship.
But there’s already been 2 Vampire games.
I’m hoping in vain for Wraith or Demon.
White Wolf really didn’t show Wraith a lot of love since they ended that game line a couple of years before the rest of WoD. I think a Demon game would be pretty nifty… I loved the premise but hated the powers and mechanics of the original game itself, though.
