Brits Pining Politely For PSP

In the spirit of Father Christmas, Brotha Kwanzaa and the Chanukah Tax Attorney (not to mention whomever I’ve forgotten to offend), it’s time to suckle the PSP with a few drops of the milk of loving kindness. Not from my honeyed teat (not until you win the lottery, baby), but from the PSP’s very own UK sales figures, which seem to be rather rosy-cheeked and perky.
Turns out that our boy the PSP has outsold both the PS2 and Xbox 360 in jolly old Angleterre, leaving all consoles and handhelds in the dust, saving of course the thorn in the PSP’s paw, that pesky Nintendo DS. And if Sony would stop trying so hard to downplay the DS (by claiming the two target different markets, for instance…come on: there are only so many game systems you can put in a fanny pack, guys), even that might not stand out so much.
Sony says it’s on target to sell one million PSPs in Britain and the Isles for the 2006 year. Now, “Sony says” is a phrase that doesn’t carry much weight these days, much like “Once upon a time” and “It’s not herpes, I just put out a cigarette on my lip,” so I’ll take this one with a big grain of salt. But for what it’s worth, that’s not all that Sony says:
“The evolution you’ll see on PSP will be greater than any console Sony has ever released,” boasted a Sony spokesperson, “starting with new peripherals like the PSP camera, which is out in early 2007.”
Well, never mind. “Greater than any console Sony has ever released?” Same old Sony, same old totally unsubstantiated bullsh*t.
But at least sales are brisk.

The majority of these sales (more than 50% of all PSPs sold) have been the PINK PSP.
I didn’t think there were so many gay gamers in the UK.
I need to get out more!
They just said it would evolve more in that last quote. Not that it was greater than any console ever released by Sony.
Still probably untrue, just clarifying is all.
That evolution quote is probably true. The psp has and probably will have the greatest number of changes over its life than any other playstation product. The psone only changed form factor and controller (from digital to dual analog, to dualshock). The ps2 only changed with the network adapter, and the redesign. The psp has added features constantly, moreso than the other platforms. So what about that is BS?
