Mario, Metroid AND Zelda DS Delayed Until Next Christmas?

I'm-a gonna make-a you wait!

No, no, no. This is all wrong. This isn’t how it’s supposed to go! CVG is reporting that so-called “reliable sources close to Nintendo” say that the forthcoming Wii games Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, as well as the DS title Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass have all been put in a little box for Christmas 2007 and won’t be coming out to play any time soon.

That’s, like, a year.

Nintendo responded with less than their usual friendly enthusiasm:

“We never confirmed a date for Super Mario Galaxy, but I can confirm that Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Phantom Hourglass will all release in 2007. We can’t confirm an exact release date for any of these titles at this time.”

Ok, so I know summer’s a drought, but this is a serious blow to my Nintendo addiction. The list of upcoming Wii games boosts my morale a little bit, but not by leaps and bounds. Maybe…and don’t everybody crush my skull at once…maybe Summer 2007 will be the Summer of PS3 Love? Desperate times…

Wow, apparently the Big N didn’t learn its lesson the last time around with the GameCube. I understand their desire to publish the best titles they can, but they’re going to end up repeating history again. I really hope they aren’t expecting the VC to maintain interest in the console for that long.

Well tiny, I share your pain.. Been loving my Wii (a bit underwhelmed with Zelda, though) but I’m concerned it might take the Gamecube route software-wise.

Quite frankly, Super Mario Galaxy seemed more like a tech demo for Wii than an actual game. Seems they now have to turn it into a full software package.

I’m eager to see if the Wii will get strong third-party support, apart from EA and Ubisoft and the occasional Capcom or Square. With the 360 underperforming and the lack of any sparkle on PS3’s lineup, I’m afraid this is the LEAST I have been interested in a new generation of videogame consoles since, well, ever.

I am so unnatached to this that I recently sold my 360, re-acquired a Dreamcast, a Sega Saturn and that mighty holy grail of videogames… PAL Panzer Dragoon Saga!

And btw, Virtual Console needs some serious love, so far, it S.U.C.K.S.

booo…good thing I’ve been playing Zelda TP slowly because it’s going to have to last a long time.

Eh, I wouldn’t put too much creedence in this. One, it’s a rumor. Two, Phantom Hourglass was given a new release date, but it was October, not Christmas. Three, I find it hard to believe that Nintendo would hold ALL of these top-tier titles for one month, a year from now, when the games are obviously all pretty far along in development. I might be wrong, but Nintendo just isn’t that foolish.

Even if the rumor does turn out to be true, the only way I could see them pulling it off is by releasing Super Smash Bros. in the spring when they were planning on releasing Metroid.

There are other existing franchises that I think will get their Wii debut in 2007 as well, namely Paper Mario and Animal Crossing.

Yeah… I hope this is just a rumor and that we’ll be seeing some big titles released next year. The most frustrating thing is that Nintendo has a habit of delaying the important things…

I mean I can appreciate quality, but when “perfect” takes 6 more months than “good?”... At some point, it doesn’t make that much of a difference…

Imagines Miyamoto: “Hmm, disagreeable color palette? (Sigh) We’ll just have to delay it till 2020….” Helper: “But sir! The Wii will be obsolete by—” Miyamoto: “SILENCE!”

So what if we have to wait? Has waiting to a Nintendo game ever NOT been worth it?

Nintendo games are good because they’re released when they’re done. We really should be supporting that, rather than doing the EA and expecting ship date to trump all. It’s a creative endeavour, sometimes things just don’t go right straight away.

Just because you’ve seen a bit of slick footage from a single level or two at a game show, doesn’t mean there’s a whole game there yet!

And this doesn’t mean a year of no games either! If we’re expecting Ninty to have learned their lesson, then we should also be leaning on other publishers to sate our Wii thirst . 2007: The Wii year of not just Nintendo!

(In a freshly encased Darth Vader fashion) Nooooooooooooo!

Welcome back Nintendo – incredibly successful worldwide launch of a delightful innovative console? Pah! Drip feed software with 12 month gaps? THAT’s the Nintendo I know and love.

I really hope this is vicious rumor, but it probably isn’t. What exactly do the developers at Nintendo do these days exactly? Twilight Princess is a wonderful launch game, it feel’s like coming home to Nintendo’s warm, soft, sweet bosom, but that game was finished almost two years ago!

The great games on the DS are coming from third parties, or are classic Nintendo franchises that they’ve handed over to external studios. I can’t think of a single major game that they are developing internally other than Mario Galaxy, and they can’t ship that for a year? It’s not like they have even been distracted by supporting their previous console, they dropped that like a hot potato over a year ago.

I can only assume that Nintendo have a slew of new IP to unleash on the world, they are only waiting for the right moment…I can but hope.
