Microsoft Struts Around, Shows Off Its Big 10

Microsoft has bragging rights and should be feeling comfortably cocky right now, in the wake of an interview with Microsoft vice president Peter Moore that has Moore telling Bloomberg News that he’s confident his company will make or exceed its goal of selling 10 million Xbox 360 consoles by the end of this year.
Moore actually had the balls to demure Microsoft’s success, playing coy and declining to set a new sales forecast while poking his finger in the sore, sticky wounds of his foes:
“Yes. All indications are that we came off a very strong Thanksgiving holiday… The key is we’re in stock, we’re available, we’re delivering well to retail… Certainly the consumer is recognizing the fact that we have a great price point as well as 160 games available and that flies in the face of our competition.”
Oh yes he did! But can Peter Moore put his meat where his mouth is? (It’s the Yoga Age, people, everybody should be flexible.) As of the end of September, Microsoft had moved 6 million 360s worldwide, and has been averaging sales of about 250,000 units a month in the United States alone. With holiday sales reaching a fevered pitch over two hard-to-find systems and a bleeding gush of new games for everyone, it’s not difficult to imagine Microsoft mopping up the consumer insanity: can’t find your kid a Wii, can’t find or afford a PS3?
It’ll be a very Microsoft Christmas, indeed. And that’s meat enough for my mouth. Yours?

With the PS2 still outselling the 360, and the ps3 launch causing a surge in PSP and PS2 sells (something in the ballpark of 280 and 160% respectively) it seems more like it will be a very Sony Christmas… again.
