Mother Has Son Arrested For Opening Xmas Present Early

It seems that a lump of coal just isn’t enough to reprimand some kids. In Rock Hill, South Carolina, a 12 year-old was arrested after his mom called the cops on him when, get this, he opened a Christmas present early.
Go ahead, gasp in shock and horror. No, prepare yourselves, because I’m actually going to defend the mother for her actions.
You see, the kid was set to receive a GameBoy Advance for the holiday and his great-grandmother had wrapped the box and put it beneath the tree with the express instruction that he not open it before Christmas. So, what did he do? Not only did he open the damn thing as soon as possible, but he left the box obviously desecrated. Moron.
Sidenote: If you’re going to unwrap your presents early, kids, make sure you do so in a subtle way that your parents don’t notice. Just be sure to sneak the object back into the box before the big day!
Anyway, the great-grandma called the kid’s mother, the mother called the police, and the kid was charged with petty larceny. While this may sound extreme at first glance, it turns out she wasn’t being completely batty with this response:
She had the child when she was 15, the woman said, and has been a single mother struggling to earn a business degree.
She said the boy likes attention and has a history of bad behavior. He has shoplifted from stores and stolen money from her, she said. The boy has also been inching toward expulsion from school, she added, and even punched a police officer last month. He was arrested for disorderly conduct in that incident.
She hoped the arrest would be a wake-up call for him. She dreads getting a phone call someday reporting he’s been killed.
Obviously, the kid has some deep-seeded problems and needs to realize that while he’s been getting away with some of this crap in the past, if he keeps acting like this he’s eventually gonna land in jail. I just feel bad for the family because I know they’re going to get some serious abuse from members of the gaming community for “abusing” this little brat.

If I was his mother, I would send him to juvy for the winter break with no Christmas presents.
I agree with the mother! From what I read about this, the Grandmother is on a strict income and spent a good chunk of the year saving for this and just wanted to see his face on Christmas when he got it. The little brat deserves it.
Too bad for the kid. At least his mom is trying.
I’d feel freaking ashamed if something like that happened to me :/
Ya great call the cops on your son of 12. This makes me sick. Now he keeps doing the same but has a court date this is so sad. Disgusting article supporting it.
Am I the only smartass that noticed not just the poor parenting but the fact he was arrested for opening a Gameboy Advance five years late!? :)
I approve of this message.
I hope it was at LEAST an SP.
Read the article – sounded like he didn’t care who knew he took it, and didn’t care about the cops that came (and subsequently wouldn’t hold him in jail).
Sounds like they need to send his ass off to boot camp for a few months.
I got raised in a military family: if I’d pulled that crap, I’d have been belted upside the head (and that’s just to start with!). If I’d kept up that kind of behavior, my folks would’ve sent me off to boot camp or worse without any hesitation.
At least the mom and grandma are trying…
Yeah, sounds like a candidate for “scared straight”.... or as we now call it, “scared into being a prison bitch to the 14-year-olds in juvy.”
But I mostly just want to see him punished for not being smart enough to unwrap it carefully and then rewrap it, like we always did when I was his age.
Um… yeah so I dont think that her having him at the age of 15 and raising him alone is reason enough for him to be such a badass, my mom was 15 when she had me and she raised me and my sister alone and I turned out fine. I dont even have a police record or anything I like games and men.
I approve of what the mom did as well. It seems too little too late tho, frankly.
What the mother did was stupid IMHO. just tring to make up for 12 yrs ob bad parenting as far as I am concerned. As someone who once was a 12 yr old boy that did a lot of ‘bad’ things. I think she just put gas on the fire. The only things that kept me from doing extremely bad stuff(i.e.going the extra mile) was the fact that I knew that if things got back to my dad I would be in world of trouble, no drugs no cops, just dad.
