New "Fragbook" Gaming Laptop Announced

Falcon Northwest has announced their latest gaming laptop, the Fragbook TLX. I have to admit, even though the machine’s label is just a smidge pretentious, I kinda love it at the same time. However, a part of me wants to watch the Frag Dolls get a set of these… y’know, simply for novelty’s sake.
So what’re the specifications for this amazingly-named piece of hardware?
he TLX is based around a 17-inch, 1680×1050 LCD; but unlike the DR model, the TLX has a relatively diminutive design. At only 1.5-inches thick and weighing 7-pounds, it’s certainly not what you’d call an ultraportable, but then again, most ultraportables don’t feature the TLX’s 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo processor, up to 160GB of hard drive storage and 2GB of RAM, nor the nVIDIA GeForce 7600 GO graphics card with 256MB of video RAM. The combination of thinness and performance doesn’t come cheap though, as the starting price of the TLX is $3,516.
That price, of course, doesn’t include the the $426 required for one of those shiny custom paint jobs. Now call me crazy, but I seem to recall reading similar specs on another computer recently:
• Display: 17-inch (diagonal), 1680 × 1050 resolution.
• Battery: 68 watt-hour
• Hard disk drive: 160 GB, 5400 RPM drive (optional 100 GB, 7200 RPMdrive or 200 GB, 4200 RPM drive)
• Optical drive: Pioneer-D150A 8× SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) double-layer read, DVD+R DL write
• Other I/O: Three USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 400 port, one FireWire 800 port, IR sensor
• Weight: 3.1 kg / 6.8 pounds
• Footprint: 39.2 × 26.5 cm / 15.4 × 10.4 inches
Hmmm… ah, that’s right: the MacBook Pro, which is priced starting at $2799. Of course, if you want to turn it into a PC, you’ll still have to buy a copy of Windows and download Bootcamp… but that’s only another $300 or so.

I’ve had a Falcon desktop forever and it purrs like a kitten. I’d been waiting for them to update their Fragbooks, although I’m not sure how I feel about gaming laptops. No, I am sure how I feel about gaming laptops: they’re awesome, I just don’t need one.
If you have space limitations, Falcon’s Fragbox is a gaming desktop system shoved into a cool glowing box the size of a toaster.
Of course, you’ll have to sell a few black market babies to raise enough cash to pay for anything Falcon makes. Good stuff though, if you’re like me and see red at the sight of a Mac.
Now if Apple would just upgrade their video card (where’s my 1800 XT?), we might have some serious competition.
