New Revenant Wings Trailer
Sure, we’ve all seen the FMV with Penelo shaking her thang with some gauzy shawl, Vaan looking twinky while pulling a doozy of a sword out of a field of pink flowers, and Fran and Balthier looking amorous while escaping the collapse of a ruin… but now, a new trailer in Japanese has been released that’s showing a heck of a lot more.
We’ve got a look at a cast of characters and lots of gameplay: a summons, a lot of melee, some special attacks that may be “quickenings,” and story progression. I’m still a little confused as to how the game plays out. It could just as easily be strategy based as it could be an all out action-adventure brawl, similar to the Mana series.
All in all, it looks great, with an aesthetic very similar to that beloved offshoot of the Final Fantasy series, FFTactics. The “Ivalice Alliance,” as Square-Enix is calling it, makes use of my favorite Final Fantasy mythos, and that can only be a good thing. 2007 is shaping up to be a good year for the little DS engine that could.

that clip of Balthier using his Element of Treachery Quickening is the darn cutest thing ive ever seen.
* sighs * Eh, it looks extremely similar to the PS2 game; they didn’t even bother giving Balthier a new quickening.
The jury’s still out, but from what I’ve seen so far, I’m not really interested…
Hmmm…to me this is looking more influenced by FFIX than FFXII…but that’s just my opinion.
Is it just me or does the anatomy of Penelo dancing looks horridly off/awful. Her torso is too long, and well… she’s even more unattractive. That aside the game looks rather blah.

ok i admit this game doesnt look like the hottest new thing, but it seems like square-enix is making a game to attract the younger audiences into the final fantasy spiral since its for the nintendo DS and the biggest DS market are kids. i love Penelo’s new costume!!!! shes sooo cute by far my second fav character in FFXII. I do hope though that they bring Basch to the game as he is by far the most Favorite character in FFXII.
