Newsflash: Gears Of War Is NOT Gay
I’ve received many emails and seen things here and there on the internet about possible gay content in Gears of War. Well, as much as I would like to be able to report that Marcus and Dom are in some sort of giant, scarred man-meat love sandwich, it’s just not the case.
The rumor is that Dom has a rather large heart tattoo with a banner that reads “Marcus”. My buddy Chris at work loaned me the game so I could see what all the hub-bub was about and of course I immediately sought out this infamous tattoo. Within minutes, I was able to get a good close up shot of Dom’s beefy arm and discovered much to my chagrin that the tattoo actually says “Maria”.
The closest thing Gears of War has to gay content is an achievement called “I just can’t quit you, Dom.” No, you don’t get it by shacking up in a pup tent with Dom, you get it by playing Dom for the whole length of the game. It’s obvious that the name of the achievement is a pointed reference to Brokeback Mountain, but that’s as gay as it gets folks.
I’m truly sorry to have to break this to all of you, but much like its creator, Cliffy B, Gears of War is merely metrosexual.

I just want to take this opportunity to say that Cliffy B is not hot. Metrosexual, yes. Hot, no. Just because he highlights his hair, wears stuff on his wrists and sports kind-of tight fitting t-shirts, that does not make him hot! He’s an okay looking guy with the ability to accessorize… so what?
Question… are any female characters actually shown in Gears Of War?
Not questioning the sexuality of the characters, but rather, I’m curious if the entire game is space marines killing human-like aliens or if there is something more to the characters. Just wondering…

I understand that you guys feel that you need to keep a certain pace, and I haven’t seen many errors on here, but the ones I’ve seen are extremely common. Please, take that extra few minutes to (or have a friend) read over your blog entries before posting.

It was my understanding that Gears of War was intended to be an entirely gay game. What went wrong?
First off, I’d like to say that I’m not trying to be rude. I really do love this site. As far as going to a grammar-dedicated site… I’m good. I see it as a bit pissy being told to “Try them”. I’m going to rise above taking that as a statement that proper spelling is not welcome here. This site is far more interesting. It’s just that I’ve seen what used to be a relatively carefully edited blog start to slip recently into sloppy mistakes. Kudos to you for not (accidentally) typing teh, as far as I have seen yet.
Here is another example. Is the hamster above Kubbar or Kubbur? It is referred to by both spellings. I know the answer; I’m making a point.
I’ll stop pointing out mistakes. You seem to be sensitive about them, and I’d rather just read in peace than ruffle feathers over grade-school mistakes.
You! I apologize, telling you to try grammar sites was a bit pissy, and for that I do apologize. Besides, you don’t seem to need them…however, with a few exceptions we here at GayGamer are not paid professional writers: we’re gays, and gamers, and we blog about those two things. While we editors try to keep things as linguistically perfect around here as possible, that ain’t realistic. We certainly do appreciate your feedback, but pedantic grammar lessons in the comments are, perhaps, a bit pissy as well. If you’ve got a suggestion or correction, we genuinely welcome it: always feel free to email the writer, an editor, or use the “Have a tip?” feature. A friendly notice in the comments is hardly unwelcome either, but on one thing I think we’re all agreed: games are good.

I’ve been stuck at home for a week with a bad knee and it’s driving me batty.
I agree, too, that games rawk! Yes, I know that’s not how it’s spelled, but I don’t think either of us really care.
As far as the minor stuff, I think the points have been made. If you feel a reminder or two would be helpful, there’s a 3-hole notebook/Trapper Keeper add-in that has the “Common Errors” on it. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it at Borders. Okay, that’s my last language tip. I promise.

There IS a girl in Gears, probably as a nod to Aliens’ blonde shuttle pilot. She runs intel over the radio for you during the whole game. You see her briefly in the very beginning, a totally unremarkable blonde thing that looks hilariously wee next to the boys.
