Resident Evil 5 Tidbits

Xboxic reports on the latest issue of Famitsu magazine and its tasty teasers concerning Capcom’s upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 crowd-pleaser, Resident Evil 5. Capcom’s been at work on RE5 since the tail end of its predecessor, but we haven’t seen much of it beyond some sweet CGI footage.

The details haven’t exactly glommed together like a pile of Tyrant Virus infected flesh and reformed into something terrifying but recognizable; piecemeal as it is, the news still sounds reassuring: producer Jun Takeuchi said the game would be released sometime during 2008, which is quite a ways away but should give the Capcom team time to focus on some of the features Resident Evil 5 will include, such as a 60fps frame rate and hyper-realistic facial animation.

High standards for visual quality seem to be the norm: the developers are modeling each strand of hair on their character models, from root to tip (somebody tell them about split ends, please) and making the environment considerably more interactive (perhaps having learned a thing or two from Dead Rising). For instance, hot and cold temperatures in the game world will impact the stability of your character.

Presumably, this means that setting yourself on fire is, at last, a bad idea.
